Las Vegas Raiders: Top-5 Running Backs in team history

Mark van Eeghen. 2. player. 28. . .

One of the first great Raiders running backs, Mark Van Eeghen played eight seasons on the legendary Oakland teams of the 1970s. Hailing from Colgate University, he was a member of the Raiders’ first two Super Bowl-winning teams. In the first season, he was a major factor as he started every game and recorded 1,273 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.

After recording over 800 yards rushing in every year from 1976 to 1980, he would transition to more of a leadership role as opposed to being the feature back. When Oakland won their second Super Bowl in 1981, he posted just 150 yards rushing and two touchdowns in eight games.

An all-time Raiders legend, Van Eeghen is a player who members of the Raider Nations old guard remember fondly. Sure, his skillset could never mesh with today’s game, but, as a legend of years gone by, he deserves his recognition. After all, he is still second all-time in Raiders history in rushing yards.
