Las Vegas Raiders: What surprised us in the Week 8 loss to the Saints

The play of Derek Carr

Sunday was a tough game for the entire Raiders roster, as they were blanked by the Saints, and could not get a stop on defense. Also, the offensive line was terrible at times, as the fact that they did not upgrade up front, this offseason reared its ugly head inside the Caesars Superdome.

However, the Silver and Black also have a nine-year starter at quarterback, and when things are breaking down, he needs to be able to help his team overcome it. There have been a lot of excuses for Derek Carr throughout the years, and rightfully so, but on Sunday, he needed to play better, even under pressure.

Carr is someone that will have to play a lot better down the stretch if the Raiders try to avoid picking in the top 5 during the 2023 NFL Draft because if they are picking that high, he could be on his way out. Carr looked scared in the pocket, made some very questionable throws downfield, and in the end, looked more like a rookie than a veteran.
