Las Vegas Raiders: What surprised us in the Week 8 loss to the Saints

The playcalling

Let’s be honest with each other for a second. When Josh McDaniels was hired to be the next head coach of the Raiders, it was supposed to be a move that brought a winning culture to Las Vegas. Instead, he has looked like the coach that was fired in Denver, and when it comes to winning, he has yet to find that formula with this organization.

On Sunday, the playcalling, led by McDaniels was atrocious, as he was outcoached by former Raiders head coach, Dennis Allen. From running jet sweeps on third-and-1 to fake punts, the Raiders looked like a team trying to steal a victory from the Saints, and unlike a team expected to win.

Maybe McDaniels can turn it around, but from what I have seen through the first seven games, he appears over his head. There is way too much talent, especially on offense, for the Raiders to get shut out by a bad New Orleans defense missing their No. 1 cornerback, and after meeting with Mr. Davis once again, you have to think he is on the hot seat.
