Observations From Josh McDaniels’ Words After Raiders Shutout Loss

Josh McDaniels finally benched Derek Carr in New Orleans

McDaniels’ offense was completely shut down on Sunday; it was just an ugly situation all around. Derek Carr was ineffective to the point that the offense couldn’t muster enough effort to cross into the Saints’ territory.

In fact, it wasn’t until Jarrett Stidham came into the game that the Raiders finally accomplished that feat.

For all intents and purposes, McDaniels had waved the white flag by the time the decision was made to pull Carr and Davante Adams. The head coach was sure to point out that no injuries or anything of that nature was related to the benching.

"“No, I just think that at that point, the game, the score, and the time remaining in the game kind of dictated being smart with that situation in general. We also took out Davante [Adams], so nothing extra.”"

There’s not much to say after a shutout loss that can quell fans’ anger and frustration. Following Sunday’s disaster, McDaniels apologized to Raider Nation, pointing to the loss as a complete team effort. Fast forward 24 hours later, and the coach seemed slightly more optimistic, if not in denial about where his team currently stands.
