Las Vegas Raiders at Jacksonville 2022 Week 9: Jaguars to Worry About
Josh Allen
The last time these two teams met was in the Hall of Fame game in the preseason, where first overall pick Travon Walker had a quick quarterback hit on the first play of the game. In Week 9 Las Vegas will have to keep a Jaguars pass rusher in check, but rather it will be a former top-five draft pick. Josh Allen has been Jacksonville’s most efficient threat in getting to the quarterback, and the Raiders can’t allow an encore performance of their pass protection from last Sunday.
Carr was sacked three times by the Saints last Sunday for a combined loss of 20 yards. New Orleans’ pass rush also finished with nine quarterback hits as Carr had little to no time to through, and for a moment it seemed he may not physically finish the game. Now enter Allen with the Jaguars, who leads the team in quarterback hits (12) and is tied for second in sacks (3.0).
The Raiders are 20th in the league with an average of 2.4 sacks allowed per game. For the most part, Las Vegas’ makeshift offensive line has held its own, but there’s always the fear that last week’s performance may open the floodgates for a porous second half of the season in pass protection. In order to avoid the nightmare scenario, Las Vegas’ o-line has to hold its own against Allen.
