2023 7-round Mock Draft: Raiders hit the reset button at QB
Speaking of players that could be steals at the end of the draft, Michigan cornerback DJ Turner fits that description perfectly. Turner is a physical freak as he runs a 4.28 40 at 6-0, 185 lbs and has solid length for a defensive back.
The Wolverine CB has plenty of speed to keep up with the fastest receivers and ball carriers in the NFL though he does not always look that fast on film. He has great recovery speed and can stay with receivers and backs in space with the long speed to stay connected downfield.
So with all of these positives, why does Turner project as a late-round pick rather than a day 1 selection? The biggest concerns about him are his size and struggles in the run game where he has not always shown a willingness to tackle running backs in space.
Scouting reports indicate that he can be undisciplined at times and can also be bullied by bigger receivers at the catch point. He is not a perfect prospect but if the Raiders can steal him this late in the draft they have an excellent foundation to work with as he has incredible physical tools and athleticism.
