Las Vegas Raiders: 10 expiring contracts not getting renewed next year

Expiring Raiders contract No. 7: Ameer Abdullah

McDaniels’ system upon his Raiders’ arrival was that he carried several running backs on his roster. That turned out to be true. However, Josh Jacobs proved to be a thorn in that plan, if you will. Jacobs has been carrying much of the offense for the better part of the season, and it’s rendered the other running backs on the roster pretty much useless.

Whether McDaniels insists on keeping five running backs on his roster next season remains to be seen, but let’s face it: Abdullah might be a goner. If Jacobs goes elsewhere, Zamir White appears to be the heir apparent. You also have fellow Brittain Brown, whom we haven’t seen much of, along with a McDaniels prodigy in Brandon Bolden.

With just 78 snaps to his credit, Abdullah likely won’t fit into Ziegler’s long-term vision.

Expiring Raiders contract No. 8: Alex Bars

Why is Alex Bars starting for the Raiders? Well, because they don’t have much of a choice. What’s interesting is that after Leatherwood was shipped off, it was Bars who was designated as a potential starter moving forward. That has not worked out at all for the Raiders. On Sunday alone, Bars allowed two pressures.

PFF has awarded him a putrid 38.9 run-blocking grade at this juncture, while his pass-blocking grade saves a bit of face at 58.8. Unless the Raiders are trying to get their potential rookie quarterback killed next year, Ziegler will move on from Bars with the utmost urgency once the season concludes.
