Many felt that Davante Adams would regress after leaving Aaron Rodgers for the Raiders. But that certainly has not happened through ten games.
Going from the reigning back-to-back MVP to that Raiders QB Derek Carr guy out in the desert will certainly cause a receiver to lose relevance. At least, that’s what an overwhelming amount of fans across the NFL genuinely believed.
It’s impossible to forget the day All-Pro wideout Davante Adams was dealt to Las Vegas. In Raider Nation’s eyes, the Silver and Black just landed the top receiver in the National Football League. Through the eyes of virtually everyone else, Adams was certain to regress going from Aaron Rodgers to Derek Carr.
As it turns out, Davante Adams is the same elite weapon he was in Green Bay.
The theory of Adams’ regression never made too much sense to begin with. Not only was Carr throwing the football to him in college, but the pair had reportedly spent each offseason training together, so there was no reason to conclude there would be chemistry issues. The deep ball had always been a strength of Derek as well as overall ball placement. No issues there, either.
So, what was it? It was the simple thought of Aaron Rodgers being an elite quarterback while Derek Carr was teetering on the edge of top-10 status.
You can poke holes in this logic a number of ways, from Carr still being a fine signal caller despite not being at Rodgers’ level, all the way to elite receivers throughout league history typically excelling rapidly regardless of who their quarterback is. For this particular situation, there’s an even easier way to end the thought of Adams possibly regressing with Carr.
