Double-digit targets for Adams

One of the silver linings of a frustrating Raiders season has been the elite play of Davante Adams. Through the highs and lows so far, he’s proven to be just as good as advertised and has largely kept Las Vegas close in games. Last week’s win against the Broncos was a perfect illustration and gives the Raiders a blueprint moving forward.

Adams was targeted 13 times against the Broncos, finishing with seven receptions for 141 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-clinching score in overtime. With Darren Waller and Hunter Renfrow out once again, it meant Josh McDaniels could use Adams both on the outside and in the slot in order to keep Denver’s defense on their toes. Adams took 26.2 percent of his snaps from the slot, his third-highest rate of slot snaps this season.

And from there it was up to Josh McDaniels to scheme him open and for Derek Carr to find his number one wide receiver in coverage. It’s not as simple as forcing the ball to him every play, but he’s an elite talent to be given the benefit of the doubt versus an opposing secondary. Keeping him involved no matter the coverage has proven essential, which means double-digit targets for Adams on the regular.
