Raiders 2023 7-round mock draft: Las Vegas needs met in draft haul
Moving down to 9th overall takes the Raiders out of the Will Anderson and Jalen Carter sweepstakes but they make do just fine with Myles Murphy out of Clemson. We know things have not gone great the last time they took an EDGE from Clemson in the first round but talent is talent no matter what school they went to.
Murphy ticks all of the boxes that you are looking for in an elite pass rusher or defensive end and is a better athlete than Clelin Ferrell despite being about 10 lbs heavier. He measures in at 6-5, 275lbs, and his last reported 40 time is 4.57, a full .2 seconds better than Ferrell which is an eternity in the NFL.
The Clemson Tiger is a bit raw as a pass rusher but he has a spin move that scouts are calling “NFL-ready” and has the speed to chase down mobile QBs and RBs alike. They also praise his hand use and technique but there are concerns about him playing upright and not using his leverage.
Despite these concerns, Murphy is projected as a top-five pick and is the highest-rated defensive end on many draft boards so getting him at nine could be a steal for the Raiders. Depending on how desperate the teams ahead of them are for QBs the Raiders could have their pick of defensive talent and starting with Murphy would be excellent.
