Raiders 2023 7-round mock draft: Las Vegas needs met in draft haul

The Raiders need defensive talent and they need versatile players that can play multiple positions and Auburn DL Colby Wooden fits that to a tee. Wooden started his career with the Tigers as a linebacker, then played some defensive end, and has been playing defensive tackle quite a bit this year.

Wooden measures in at 6-5, 278lbs and has good athleticism for his size though is not physically overpowering. He is definitely not a run-stuffing defensive tackle but can play both the 3 technique and line up outside as an edge defender. His obvious length and athleticism make him tough to block in space and he can overpower tight ends and backs that try to block him.

The production is there as he has 10.5 sacks in his last two seasons and has racked up over 100 tackles over that span.

Some of the concerns around Wooden is that tweener tag where he does not have a true position which can be as big a negative as it can be a potential positive. Some guys are able to adapt and play multiple positions while others just float around without making an impact.

Picking Wooden 191st overall makes sense because this is where you can gamble on guys like this and hope that his upside is what wins out ultimately.
