Las Vegas Raiders 2023 7-round Mock Draft: A backup for Derek Carr
Las Vegas Raiders 2023 7-round Mock Draft: Insurance for Darren Waller
We wrap up the draft with another developmental prospect in Grayson McCall out of Coastal Carolina who projects as anywhere from a 4th rounder to an undrafted free agent. The young QB has good size at 6-3, 215lbs, and his 4.67 40 is enough to make defenses have to respect him as a rushing threat in the right situation.
You may ask why the Raiders would take a QB this late and the reasoning is simple, having depth at QB is increasingly important and they can take their time in developing him as a pro passer with no pressure on him or the current starter in Derek Carr.
McCall has solid arm strength and can throw well on the run which is a nice complement to his athleticism and running ability.
The best season of his career was 2021 but he has been consistently good as a starter for 3 years now with an absurd TD-INT ratio of 77-8. He hovers around a 70% completion rate and is clearly very accurate given his low interception numbers and still impressive air yards per attempt of 11.8.
McCall would be a fun developmental prospect for the Raiders and would give them a potentially solid backup and spot starter for years to come after some time in the McDaniels’ system.
