Raiders 7-round 2023 NFL Mock Draft: Defense gets an influx of talent
Jalen Catolon is a high level prospect that may slide down draft boards because of his lack of ideal size. He measures in at 5-10, 201lbs so height is a concern but he does have a stout build that can help make up for that.
While he ran a 4.50 for his last recorded 40, he looks faster on tape and is a smart player that is great at diagnosing what is happening in front of him. He has great quickness and is not going to get bullied in the run game even though he is on the smaller side. We have seen the downside of having a smaller DB out there with Amik Robertson getting mossed by big receivers but you can make up for that by matching their physicality which Catalon does as well.
His biggest issues are around his size and the fact that he has missed a lot of games due to injury. However at this point of the draft you are betting on upside and a guy getting a clean bill of health as he develops into his body. The Raiders will definitely be looking at safety in this draft and though they may opt for a healthier prospect, Jalen Catalon looks like a worthy selection in the 5th round.
