Raiders 7-round 2023 NFL Mock Draft: Defense gets an influx of talent

Cougars . Jaren Hall. 201. player. 861. . QB

In our last mock draft we selected Grayson McCall in the 7th round as the potential backup and future starter and this time we grabbed another developmental prospect in Jaren Hall out of BYU. Hall is more of a natural athlete than McCall and Derek Carr and is certainly more in the mold of the mobile QBs taking over the NFL.

The BYU QB took over for Zach Wilson in 2021 and has been steadily improving ever since, putting together a great season in 2022 with 3,171 passing yards, 31 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. His dual threat ability is constantly on display as well as he put up 350 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns on 86 attempts.

Hall has a strong arm and is an accurate passer but there are concerns about his ability to read defenses at the NFL level and make plays from the pocket. He is on the smaller side at 6-0, 205lbs but his 4.5 speed and maturity due to his age make him an intriguing prospect.

Some see him being 25 as a negative but we see it as a positive as he will hopefully be more mature than your average 20-year-old. We definitely wouldn’t expect to see Hall out on the field in his first few seasons other than to run some trick plays but he has the tools to develop into a solid backup and spot starter.
