Raiders vs Patriots 2022 Week 15: Studs and Duds

Josh McDaniels – Dud

The theme of this Raiders season has been the blown leads and they did it yet again to a team that is among the league’s worst on offense. After a Mack Hollins touchdown at the end of the first half, the Raiders went into halftime up 17-3 but no one thought that the lead was even remotely safe with this team.

That proved to be the case as the wheels fell off the Raiders’ offense and they struggled to do much of anything until their final drive of the game. They couldn’t find any rhythm and the play-calling was mind-numbing as the Raiders committed penalty after penalty to kill drives.

After several stalled drives and no points scored for 90% of the second half, the Patriots were able to take the lead, and were it not for a bomb from Carr and some questionable refereeing, they would have gone home victorious.

McDaniels continued his conservative nature by passing up on a 4th and 3 at midfield and choosing to play defense despite the unit being exhausted at that point.

The Raiders won this game but at no point did McDaniels call a play or make a decision that inspired any confidence from Raider Nation or this author. They seem to have won enough games to keep his job safe for 2023 but there have been few signs that he is the right man for the job. The blown leads and second-half collapses have become a regular occurrence and the blame should be on the head coach before anyone else.
