Las Vegas Raiders: Realistic quarterback options in 2023
Las Vegas Raiders: Realistic quarterback options in 2023
Option 3: Jimmy Garoppolo
Okay, okay, before anyone freaks out, this one comes with a caveat. Jimmy Garoppolo is a realistic option in the event that the Raiders draft a quarterback, such as Anthony Richardson, and use the veteran as a bridge-type player while said rookie develops.
If McDaniels and Ziegler decide to go the route of having a rookie sit behind a veteran and develop, there are few more sensible options than Garoppolo. Jimmy G has a connection with Josh McDaniels from their days in New England, so he would be familiar with the system.
Additionally, Garoppolo is not the type of player that would start any type of controversy when/if McDaniels felt it was time for the rookie to start. While he has shown the ability to exceptionally manage a game, posting a career record of 40-17 in starts, there is no real debate remaining on whether or not Garoppolo is a franchise quarterback.
Although a Carr to Garoppolo move is lateral, at the very best, drafting a rookie QB of the future would give the Raiders real direction. It has been proven that the best shot at sustained success in the NFL is building around a quarterback on a rookie contract, and this move gives Las Vegas the opportunity to do that.
It likely would not be the most popular option, but it may be the best for the long-term future of the Silver and Black.
