Las Vegas vs 49ers 2022 Week 17: 3 Raiders to watch
QB Jarrett Stidham
No one is going to have more of a microscope on them than the Raiders’ new QB1 Jarrett Stidham. As previously mentioned, Josh McDaniels and company have decided they are going to bench incumbent Derek Carr in order to “get a look” at the younger guys on the roster.
Just so happens that it also protects them against an injury that would guarantee Carr’s 40.4 million dollars that don’t officially kick in until 3 days after the Super Bowl.
Nonetheless, Stidham is the perfect person to step in and take over the job. As someone who has been in a Josh McDaniels system ever since he was drafted, no one knows the playbook better than he does. Tight end Darren Waller touched on the fact that a lot of guys go to Stidham for advice when it comes to certain calls or reads or different nuances they are still learning about within the system.
Stidham also brings a whole new look to the offense. He is someone who is going to not do too much, while also sticking to McDaniels game plan for better or for worse. Though he isn’t going to have as high of a ceiling as the team would get with Carr, there is a good chance he won’t do worse than Carr has been over the last month and a half.
All eyes will be on Stidham more because of the situation and less about whether he can actually play. People are going to use this experiment to determine who won the breakup between Carr and McDaniels. Regardless of all that noise, though, the Raiders new signal-caller will make or break the way these next two games pan out and will be the number 1 person to watch moving forward.
