Raiders 2023 7-round Mock Draft: Las Vegas lands a franchise QB
The Raiders kept 5 running backs on the 2022 roster and looked set to be a running back by committee backfield until Josh Jacobs decided he was going to have one of the best seasons ever by a Raider back. Jacobs is a free agent after this season and could be brought back on a franchise tag but if Las Vegas chooses to let him go and go cheap at running back, they could snag an intriguing prospect in Roschon Johnson out of Texas.
Johnson went to Austin as a QB but switched full-time to RB after his freshman year and has the build and attributes of an elite back. He has been overshadowed by Bijan Robinson who looks like an elite player, but Johnson has put up solid numbers of his own. In 2021 and 2022 he averaged around 6 yards per carry and has an impressive 26 touchdowns in 47 games.
The most intriguing things about Johnson are his physical attributes as he is listed at 6-2, 223lbs and last ran a 4.39 40. His combination of size and speed is rare and that alone could get him a look at the next level the lack of mileage on his body with just 400 attempts in 4 years could be a big plus for him.
If he runs well at the combine and pro day he could solidify himself as a late-round pick though some have him as a UDFA. He could form a formidable backfield with Zamir White or give the Raiders a big back alternative for short-yardage situations even if they keep Josh Jacobs.
