Raiders 2023 7-round Mock Draft: Las Vegas lands a franchise QB

804. . EDGE. Seminoles . Jared Verse. 40. player

The Raiders have been in search of a pass rusher to complement Maxx Crosby the last few years and after the Yannick Ngakoue and Chandler Jones experiments have failed, they will try to find a competent replacement in the draft. Up steps Jared Verse out of Florida State and formerly of Albany.

Verse started his career in upstate New York and spent two seasons with the Great Danes before transferring to Florida State where he has developed into a dominant pass rusher this season. In 11 games this year, Verse has 14.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks, and has all of the physical tools to rush the passer at the NFL level.

The former Seminole looks like a prototypical edge rusher at 6–4 and 251 lbs and has the physical tools to be one at the next level. He has long arms and a powerful lower body that allows him to ward off blockers and chase down ball carriers. Giving him a season of tutelage under one of the pass rush masters in Chandler Jones could help him develop into a dominant player in a few seasons.

The primary concern is that he is not an every-down player, but if he adds some size to his frame, he could develop into a better run defender and change that perception quickly. With the money that the Raiders are paying Jones, they will likely continue to start him so ringing verse along slowly is an option.
