More Interceptions

As members of Raiders Nation know, the team’s defense has been one of the league’s worst for what feels like an eternity. While the unit certainly gives up a lot of points and yards, they are especially bad at forcing opposing offenses into mistakes.

Currently, the Raiders have just five interceptions as a team which is good for the second-worst in the league. The Steelers lead the league with seventeen. Of course, much of forcing turnovers comes down to luck as a ball being tipped one way can completely change the course of a game. Unfortunately, this is much too common for the Raiders’ defense.

In three of their last four seasons, the team has been in the bottom five of the league in interceptions. With a severe lack of talent throughout the defense, they will not be forcing many three-and-outs. In order to make up for this, they will have to make more plays on the ball.

As mentioned, turnovers are typically a fluke stat as they tend to fluctuate from year to year. If the Raiders can pair their high-scoring offense with some more turnover luck in 2023, they should be able to return to the playoffs.
