Las Vegas Raiders: 2023 New Years resolutions that must be kept

Find A Franchise Quarterback

For the last nine seasons, the Raiders have been led by quarterback Derek Carr. A second-round pick in 2014, he has since become the most accomplished passer in the history of the franchise. Despite holding records for passing yards and touchdowns, the team has only made the playoffs twice.

This week, the Raiders brass has seemingly elected to move on from the Carr era. With the offense struggling at numerous points this season en route to some embarrassing losses, it was a long time coming.

Now, the new front office led by general manager Dave Zeigler has a massive decision on its hands. With a likely top-ten pick in the NFL Draft, they will have a chance to select a young quarterback to lead their team into the future. Anthony Richardson, a project who is filled to the brim with potential, is likely to be available when they pick.

However, Las Vegas is loaded with talent and will not want to waste a season waiting for Richardson to get ready. In this case, a former McDaniel’s quarterback would make sense as they already have a good grasp of the offense. Both Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo make sense as bridge options while a rookie adjusts.

Regardless of what route they pursue, this is a decision that the Silver and Black cannot afford to mess up. While Carr was certainly not an elite quarterback, he was still a solid option. In choosing to move on, the team clearly feels they can do better. It is up to them to find their guy.
