Raiders: Derek Carr Era as QB1 will end with no farewell tour

QB1 from Day 1

The then-Oakland Raiders drafted Carr in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft, selecting the record-setting quarterback from Fresno State. Carr would go on to beat out Matt Schaub for the starting quarterback job during training camp, and be named the team’s Week 1 starter on the road against the New York Jets.

Unfortunately, while Carr had a solid rookie season, the Raiders were atrocious on the field, and their 0-4 start to the season meant the end of the road for head coach Dennis Allen. Oakland would name Tony Sparano the interim head coach for the rest of the season, a season that would see the Raiders finish with a 3-13 record, and a last place finish in the AFC West.

For the season, Carr would finish with over 3,200 yards and 21 touchdowns, and the three wins would be the lowest total he would have in a season in his career. All told, he established himself as a legitimate starting quarterback at the NFL level, and far outplayed any kind of expectation the franchise was hoping for entering his rookie campaign.
