Las Vegas Raiders: Darkhorse trade destinations for Derek Carr

Miami Dolphins

We promised that the last team on this list would surprise you and you may do a double take when you see that the Miami Dolphins have +3000 odds to acquire Derek Carr. There are a few obstacles the way that may keep this from happening, but as we have seen several times in the past, when there is a will there’s a way.

It’s safe to say that the Miami Dolphins have not been pleased with their quarterback situation this year as Tua Tagovailoa has vacillated between looking like an MVP candidate or a third-string quarterback. Tua has also struggled with concussions that have caused him to miss several weeks of the season and there are even rumors that he may retire due to those issues.

If he retires then the Dolphins will certainly be in the market for a new quarterback but even if not, they could be looking to move in a different direction and take advantage of the talent they have on offense. They used a first-round pick on Jaylen Waddle and gave up a ton to get Tyreek Hill and they want to take advantage of this window while it is open.

The primary issues right now for the Dolphins are a lack of a first-round pick this off-season and a lack of cap space in 2023. There would have to be some creative accounting and corresponding moves to make this happen but the situation could be appealing for Carr.

Mike McDaniel made the playoffs in his first year as a head coach and owner Stephen Ross is one of the more well-regarded owners despite the tampering issues he dealt with last season. Carr should be salivating at the prospect of playing with Waddle and Hill, and the Dolphins have a strong running game thanks to running an offshoot of the famous Shanahan offense.

The defense was up and down this year but they have several blue chippers in Christian Wilkins, Bradley Chubb, Xavien Howard, and more. Carr may not want to butt heads with Josh Allen and the Bills twice a year, not to mention Belichick and the Patriots, but he would get to play in a warm climate for the most part.

It is easy to see a scenario where the Dolphins move on from Tua Tagovailoa, but trading for Derek Carr would be difficult based on what we know now. If they can swing it then we can see them as an immediate contender in the AFC but they would have to move mountains to make it happen.
