Las Vegas Raiders: Top 5 moments from the Derek Carr Era

Securing His First Win

Sitting at 0-10 heading into a Thursday Night Football match-up with the rival Kansas City Chiefs, not many expected the Raiders to get a win in Oakland that night. At 7-3, the Chiefs were one of the better teams in the NFL and favored to win despite being on the road.

At this point, Carr was still looking to prove himself in the NFL. A second-round rookie, he had yet to even get his first win as a professional. Still, he had shown enough to get the fanbase excited. In fact, he earned the job after a pre-season where he proved, without a shadow of a doubt, that he deserved to be the first rookie quarterback to start a week one game in team history.

In this game, Oakland started off on fire. Following two first-half touchdowns by youngster Latavius Murray, the Raiders once had a 17-3 lead in the third quarter. Unfortunately, Murray would be forced to leave the game after having four carries for 112 yards and two touchdowns. After the Chiefs stormed back to take the lead 20-17, it was time for Carr to take control in the fourth.

As would be the case often in his career, Carr led a game-winning drive deep into the fourth quarter. With a touchdown pass to James Jones with a little over a minute left, the offense handed the game over to the defense with a 24-20 lead.

Khalil Mack and co. would come through and get Carr his first win as a starting quarterback. Of course, at 1-10, the Silver and Black had a long way to go as a franchise. Alas, this was a big win and it showed on the face of their new franchise quarterback who had finally gotten the monkey off his back.
