Las Vegas Raiders: 5 numbers that defined the 2022 season
Raiders: 5 numbers that defined the 2022 season
5. 5
Number of blown leads
It is a sad reality, but we all know what truly defined the 2022 Raiders: the number of leads they blew.
Five times, the Raiders seemed to have control of a game, and five times, they snatched defeat out of the jaws of victory. Just to get a visual, here is the list of games they gave away:
"Week 2 vs. Arizona: 20-point lead, lose 29-23 Week 5 @ Kansas City: 17-point lead, lose 30-29 Week 9 @ Jacksonville: 17-point lead, lose 27-20 Week 14 @ Los Angeles: 13-point lead, lose 17-16 Week 16 @ Pittsburgh: 7-point lead, lose 13-10"
And that is not even including the fact they gave the Jeff Saturday Colts their only win in his tenure.
The Raiders have certainly found multiple ways to depress their fan base over the years, but this NFL record for blown 2nd half-leads is at a new level. And each one of them was unique in its absurdity.
From Kyler Murray running around likes he’s in the schoolyard to Baker Mayfield coming off the bench after joining the team that very week. And what may have been the most significant is the final Carr interception vs. Pittsburgh, which will likely be the last pass he throws for the Raiders.
Overall, it was a year elevated by outstanding individual performances but ultimately tarnished by team failure. And it is another offseason that leaves a lot more questions than answers.
