Jets swing for the fence
I would be hard pressed to see the Raiders deal their star tight end after inking him to a recent extension. Waller’s contract came as the final stamp on the Raiders 2022 pay day off season after trading for and extending Davante Adams, extending Maxx Crosby, and extending Hunter Renfrow.
Waller signed a three-year/$51 million extension with $19.2 million guaranteed, making him the highest paid tight end in the NFL at an average of 17 million a year.
The very intriguing part about his contract is that the Raiders take a next to nothing hit if he is traded pre-June 1. He has no more guaranteed money after this season and would save the Raiders over 11 million dollars.
I wouldn’t want to see Darren Waller go because he’s been such a pivotal part of our offense since coming over, but he has had his injury issues. Like they say, a player’s best ability is their availability.
The Jets defense is top tier and would be an enticing reason Derek Carr would want to go to New York. It seems as though they are set up to have continued success and could be a veteran quarterback away from really competing.
Their offense is very young, with the wide receiver and running back position all but shored up. Bringing in one of the best tight ends in the league along with Derek Carr would round out their offense with a perfect amount of young fresh talent and veteran presence to help develop them.
