Derek Carr could see success before the Las Vegas Raiders do
By Brad Weiss
The Las Vegas Raiders will have a new quarterback in 2023, but their old one, Derek Carr, could enjoy more success than them in Year 1 somewhere else.
Going into the 2023 NFL season, the Las Vegas Raiders will finally have a new starting quarterback after nine seasons of Derek Carr being at the helm. After benching Carr with two games left in the season, the franchise made it known that they will be going in another direction, clearing the way for Carr to find a new home.
Already, there have been numerous teams interested in Carr, who set nearly every Raiders passing record during his nine seasons as a starter. In fact, one of those teams is the New York Jets, who appear to be a quarterback away from being a legitimate playoff contender, and seem to have their eyes set on No. 4.
Moving on, Carr is going to put himself in a position to win right away, as he dealt with so much losing with the Raiders franchise, as well as so many changes in personnel, and within the coaching staff. By moving on, Carr will be able to decide where he wants to continue his NFL career, and there are plenty of teams out there who could benefit from his services, setting them up for success in 2023.
The truth is after what happened at the end of the 2022 season, breaking up is the best thing for both the Raiders and Carr. The divide between him and Josh McDaniels is not repairable at this point, and for both parties, moving in another direction will be a breath of fresh air.
Raiders have a lot of work to do with the roster
Moving on to a team like the Jets, or even the Washington Commanders would lead to some instant success for Carr in the win column. In particular, New York has a bunch of solid young wide receivers, a solid offensive line, and a possibly elite running back in Bryce Hall, who will be healthy heading into 2023.
On defense, the Jets would boast the best unit Carr has played with in his career, and when it comes to fans that back Carr, they are always quick to blame the horrible defenses the Silver and Black have had throughout his nine-year career.
Las Vegas will have to revamp their entire defense, their offensive line, and bring in a new quarterback, three tall orders in one offseason. They also have to find out if McDaniels can actually improve as head coach, so Carr could be entering a franchise with a lot more answers and more reasons for success than the one he is leaving behind.
