Las Vegas Raiders 7-round 2023 NFL Mock Draft: A QB1 at pick No. 7

. QB. Gators . Anthony Richardson. 7. player. 840

The latest QB linked to the Raiders is Florida signal caller Anthony Richardson who may be one of the most divisive players in the draft. Richardson became the full-time starter for the Gators this year and lead them to a 6-7 overall record and a 3-5 conference record in the SEC.

While many don’t believe that wins are a QB stat, the basic stats for Richardson don’t jump off the page as he threw for just 2,549 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions in 12 games this season. The raw stats are not what gets folks excited about Richardson but rather it is his massive upside and incredible physical tools.

Scouts consider Richardson the QB with the highest upside as he has great speed with a 4.48 40, ideal size at 6-4 and 236 lbs, and a cannon for an arm. He’s still young at just 22 years old and has all the tools necessary to be an incredible NFL quarterback. When guys talk about him, they picture him becoming Josh Allen or Cam Newton and shaking off defenders while throwing a bomb 50 yards downfield.

The issues with Richardson come when it comes to some of the details in the game like reading coverages and being consistent with his mechanics. We know he can hit the deep ball but can he consistently hit the short to intermediate routes while reading a blitz?

Some of that will come with time and we think that the Raiders will bet on his upside while also signing a veteran quarterback to keep things moving. Perhaps Jarrett Stidham is the Week 1 starter and the Raiders bring Richardson along slowly after using the 7th overall pick on him.
