Las Vegas Raiders 7-round 2023 NFL Mock Draft: A QB1 at pick No. 7

Sooners . Marvin Mims. 108. player. 815. . WR

We’ve said many times this offseason that the Raiders will likely need to upgrade the wide receiver position and with rumors that Hunter Renfrow is on the trading block that could become an even bigger need. Even if Renfrow is on the team, he is at his best in the slot and the Raiders need a playmaker on the outside opposite Davante Adams.

Marvin Mims fits that bill as he is an excellent deep threat and displayed that in his last two seasons with the Sooners. In 2021 he averaged 22 yards per reception and did the same in 2022 at 20.1 but with even more yards and receptions. He put up 32 catches for 705 yards in ’21 and 54 catches for 1,083 yards and 6 touchdowns in ’22.

Mims has solid speed for his size with a 4.46 40 but he is not exactly a burner at the NFL level so that may hinder his draft stock if teams think he can’t take the top off a defense. As we have said many times this offseason, any WR2 will have the privilege of working against single coverage if he shares the field with Adams, Renfrow, and Darren Waller.

The former Sooners receiver has scouts concerned about his size and ability to win on the outside but if the Raiders need a deep threat and a guy that gives the offense another dimension, he would be a great value here. He can also help in the return game and take over those duties from Renfrow on punt and kick returns.
