JL Skinner – Safety, Boise State

There are always those prospects who don’t have a defined role for the next level but possess elite tools, and JL Skinner is that type of player. Skinner is 6’’4 and has the speed to fly around the field, and plays with a level of aggression that the Raiders could use.

Being that tall, he is not the type of player who can currently hold up in-man coverage against most receivers. But he thrives as a bigger slot, who can take away the tight ends and petrol the underneath zone. And if the Raiders are willing to be creative, Skinner could be a great chess piece.

The defense lacks speed and physicality, which is precisely Skinner’s game, so he’s worth a look in the middle rounds. And if he flashes solid change of direction skills in the one-on-one periods, he could see a nice boost to his stock.
