Las Vegas Raiders: 3 realistic QB options with Tom Brady retiring

Jimmy Garoppolo

After six seasons in San Francisco, Jimmy Garoppolo lost his grip on the starting job in 2022. Originally conceding the gig to highly touted first-rounder Trey Lance, Garoppolo would regain it quickly after Lance got injured.

Soon, “Jimmy G” would suffer an injury of his own and get outplayed by seventh-round rookie Brock Purdy.

Now a free agent, he will look for another chance to be an NFL starter. At 31 however, he is likely to only find jobs as a bridge quarterback. This could make him a good fit in Las Vegas. After all, Josh McDaniels was the Patriots’ offensive coordinator when they selected him in the second round.

Already familiar with the offense, he could step in on day one and help the team transition into a new era as a rookie adapts to the pros. There is also the chance that whatever rookie the team selects just outplays Garoppolo from the jump similar to the situation that Pittsburgh faced last season with Mitchell Trubisky and Kenny Pickett. In that case, the Raiders would have one of the league’s best backups.
