Las Vegas Raiders 7-round 2023 NFL Mock Draft: A perfect scenario?

WR. Horned Frogs . Derius Davis. 226. player. 872.

Derius Davis has everything that you look for in a deep threat with the exception of his diminutive size. The TCU speedster runs his 40 in 4.29 seconds and has been one of the fastest players in college football, but his slight build makes him a fringe prospect rather than a top-ten pick.

Davis has put up solid numbers his last two years with around 80 catches and 1,000 yards total though he did score 5 touchdowns in 2022. His numbers are not eye-popping but he is electric when he gets the ball and could be a dangerous weapon on this Raiders offense.

He will have the benefit of single coverage and has exactly the type of speed you look for in a game-breaking player. He is quite small at 5-9 and 168 lbs but that size doesn’t mean much if he is 5 yards past the defense on a deep ball. The Raiders could also take advantage of that speed in the screen game or with the occasional and around.

The easiest way for Davis to make an impact for the Raiders would be on special teams as he did return punts and kicks for the Horned Frogs and averaged more than 20 yards a return in 2022. Davis is exactly the type of player that you target in the late rounds as he has clear deficiencies alongside elite physical traits that you can gamble on. There are plenty of one-trick ponies in the NFL but you can’t coach speed and that is something you can always bet on even at the NFL level.
