Raiders 7-round 2023 NFL Mock Draft: CJ Stroud in the Silver and Black

819. . Safety. Fighting Irish . Brandon Joseph. 38. player

This isn’t the first time we’ve mocked Brandon Joseph to the Raiders and for good reason. We know all about the turnover that the Raiders experience at the safety position in 2022 and they need a solid long-term solution here.

Brandon Joseph provides just that as he has demonstrated excellent ball skills, the ability to track the ball downfield, and the ability to react quickly to whatever the offense is doing. He has good size for a safety and his solid build AT6-1 and 196 pounds help him be a willing tackler in the run game.

Joseph played one year at Notre Dame after spending the first three years of his college career at Northwestern where he was a tackling and turnover machine for the Wildcats. His raw statistics were less impressive at Notre Dame but his QB rating of 70.7 when targeted is very impressive.

The young safety will need to be coached up but there is an easy path to him being a contributor on this defense next year, especially with the multiple safety looks that Patrick Graham deploys. The Raiders will probably want to bring back Duron Harmon as he was a great leader on that defense, and he could be an excellent mentor for Joseph moving forward.
