Las Vegas Raiders: Ranking the top-8 options at quarterback in 2023

No. 2: Jimmy Garoppolo

Garoppolo is currently injured and has been replaced by Brock Purdy in San Francisco. With the recent explosion of Purdy and the 49ers drafting Trey Lance last year, there’s no way Jimmy is still a 49er next season.

With Garoppolo and Josh McDaniels having spent time together in New England, it’s a real possibility that the Raiders are interested in the veteran quarterback. Is Jimmy Garoppolo an improvement over Derek Carr? Not really, but Carr was expected to put the Raiders on the hook for 40 million next season, and if the Raiders can bring someone in that’s close in talent for a fraction of the cost, why not?

Spend the spare cap on the defense and build a complete team around Garoppolo. This is probably the safest option on this list, and it might be boring, but this is a team game, and it’s no secret the Raiders need a lot of help defensively. Just because the Raiders sign Garoppolo, it doesn’t mean they can’t take a quarterback in the draft to sit and develop for a year or two behind Jimmy.
