Raiders 7-round 2023 NFL Mock Draft: QB, 2024 first-round pick, and more

Cardinal . Tanner McKee. 109. player. 871. . Quarterback

The Raiders grab a potential quarterback of the future in the fourth round by grabbing Tanner McKee out of Stanford with the 109th overall pick. McKee does not have the same cache or highlight package as Florida’s Anthony Richardson, but he looks to be a solid quarterback prospect nonetheless with a decent ceiling.

The former Stanford quarterback has great size at 6-6 and 230 pounds but he is not someone that you would describe as statuesque as his last 40 time was 4.75 seconds. He is a two-year starter for the Cardinal and last season threw for nearly 3,000 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions.

None of these numbers jump off the page but it’s worth remembering that Stanford was one of the worst teams in the country last season at 3-9 and McKee was playing behind one of the worst offensive lines in college football. The team struggled as a whole and none so more than the quarterback who was running for his on most passing plays.

The fact that Stanford was so terrible last year mixed with McKee’s obvious physical attributes make him a very difficult prospect to evaluate and he may slide down draft boards for that reason. He is also a bit older than some of the other prospects as a 22-year-old junior because he took two years off for missionary work for the Church of Latter-Day Saints.

All that being said, he looks the part of a prototypical NFL quarterback and he has just enough athleticism and speed to make plays with his feet when necessary. Josh McDaniels seems to prefer bigger and stronger quarterbacks that can stand in the pocket and take some punishment and he could look to McKee as a developmental player for the future.
