No. 9: Gibril Wilson, Safety (6yr-$39M)

Gibril Wilson to the Oakland Raiders just seemed to make sense, especially after the Bay Area native played a key role for the New York Giants in a Super Bowl-winning season. In fact, Wilson played so well that many felt he was the unsung hero of that Super Bowl title, and he landed in Oakland with a massive six-year/$39 million contract.

Making him one of the highest-paid safeties in the NFL, there was a lot of pressure on Wilson to key a Raiders secondary that featured one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL in Nnamdi Asomugha. Wilson did his part in the run defense, racking up over 120 tackles in his only season in the Silver and Black, but he was downright atrocious against the pass.

All told, Wilson played only one season with the Raiders, as the team shockingly moved on from him, despite him bringing a big dead cap number. Wilson was a hard-hitting safety and while he possibly could have been brought back on a restructured deal, his one-and-done season in the Silver and Black after signing for nearly $40 million was definitely a top-10 worst signing in team history.
