Las Vegas Raiders: Bold predictions for the 2023 offseason

Bold Prediction 1: Blockbuster trade (but not the one everyone expects).

As far as blockbuster trades go, the one that has been discussed most in Raider Nation is the possible acquisition of Packers’ QB Aaron Rodgers. Here, though, we look at the possibility of a different deal.

During the 2023 offseason, the Raiders will acquire CB Jalen Ramsey from the Los Angeles Rams.

It has been rumored, especially over the past few days and weeks, that the Rams are expected to move on from Ramsey sooner rather than later. Ramsey is reportedly looking for a new contract with a trade, as well.

In comes the Raiders.

Las Vegas needs to make a splash on defense and they have been without an elite cornerback since Nnamdi Asomugha left in free agency in 2011. While Ramsey struggled a bit to begin the 2022 season, he regained elite form by season’s end and finished the campaign as the third-highest graded corner.

The Florida State product would immediately be at least the second-best player on the Raiders’ defense and would provide a shot in the arm to a secondary that desperately needs it. As of right now, the Raiders’ best secondary player is Nate Hobbs. That is simply not going to cut it against Justin Herbert and Patrick Mahomes.

Add in the fact that Ramsey is not likely to command a 1st round pick to acquire his services, and it becomes a very real possibility that the 2016 fifth-overall pick is a Raider by the end of the 2023 offseason.
