Las Vegas Raiders news: Long-term solution at QB, Marcel Reece resigns
By Brad Weiss
The Las Vegas Raiders are officially in draft mode, and it seems like head coach Josh McDaniels is looking for a long-term solution at quarterback.
The 2023 NFL Scouting Combine has kicked off in Indianapolis, which is considered by many to be the official start of the Las Vegas Raiders 2023 NFL Draft season. The top prospects from around the country will descend on Indianapolis to bolster their draft stock, and for the Raiders, they have plenty of draft capital this draft season.
When it comes to the Raiders, the big question this offseason will be what the team plans to do with the quarterback position. We already know the long-term solution may not come this offseason, but after hearing Josh McDaniels speak this week, it is clear that is the direction the team wants to go.
Raiders looking for a long-term solution at QB
Speaking at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine, Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels went into depth about what he is looking for in the quarterback room for next season, and beyond. McDaniels told the media that he would eventually like the quarterback of the Raiders to be there for the long haul, so whether or not they bring in that player this offseason, or in the future, was pretty vague.
This offseason, the Silver and Black have been linked to almost every available signal-caller, and some who are not even available yet, like Aaron Rodgers, who is still under contract with the Green Bay Packers. Overall, this is going to be a process to see who the team replaces Derek Carr with under center in 2023, and in the future, and it could be a long ride.
Goodbye to Marcel Reece
Longtime Raiders star fullback Marcel Reece served as the team’s Senior VP this past season, a role he will no longer be in for 2023 and beyond. Reece and a number of other executives resigned on Tuesday, including Rosie Bones, who had been with the franchise for 21 years.
Times are certainly changing when it comes to the franchise, and hopefully, change is finally for the better. This is one of the bigger offseasons in recent memory, but with so many assets this offseason, David Ziegler and his crew have a great opportunity to put a winning product on the field in 2023.
