Las Vegas Raiders 2023 7-round NFL Mock Draft: Combine Week edition
214. Christian Young S Arizona
Christian Young is an intriguing prospect out of Arizona that has a great physical profile which makes him worthy of this late-round selection despite some concerns about his coverage ability. He measures in at 6-3 and 228 pounds so he is a bit of a tweener between safety and linebacker despite playing primarily safety for the Wildcats.
Young ran a 4.44 second 40 and made Bruce Feldman’s Freaks List for his incredible speed which he displayed as a former track star in Texas. Scouts credit him for his football awareness and using his athleticism to make up for some lapses on the mental side of the game.
This selection would be the Raiders betting on his physical upside and hoping that they can coach him up on the mental side of the game. Young struggled against double moves in coverage and has shown a little bit of stiffness in his hips which projects him as more of a weak-side linebacker or box safety than a single high safety.
Patrick Graham loves multiple safety looks and a guy with this size and this elite speed for his position could be a great weapon on this defense.
