Raiders 2023 7-round NFL Mock Draft: Trades bring 16 picks, multiple QBs?
Las Vegas Raiders 2023 7-round NFL Mock Draft: Combine Week edition
245. Davis Allen TE Clemson
*Acquired via trade with NYG
With the final selection in this year’s draft class, the Raiders address a potential position of need by drafting tight end Davis Allen out of Clemson. Darren Waller is firmly entrenched as the starting tight end for the Raiders but with the uncertain status of Foster Moreau as a long-term Raider, the team is forced to look at other potential options.
Allen had a solid senior season with 39 catches for 443 yards and five touchdowns on a Clemson team that was good but not great in 2022. At 6-6 and 250 pounds, Allen has the height that you look for in most tight ends though he may need to add some bulk to his frame to be a more effective blocker.
Scouts credit him for his body control and ability to make contested catches in jump ball situations. His height gives him a natural advantage over most defensive backs and his 40 time of 4.75 seconds is enough to keep defenders honest when he is streaking down the middle of the field.
Most scouting reports note that he shows great effort when blocking though as mentioned he will need to add some bulk to his frame if he is going to block NFL defensive lineman. He is not an elite athlete which is expected at this point in the draft but his combination of size and production makes him a worthwhile selection in the 7th round.
