Raiders 2023 7-round NFL Mock Draft: Trades bring 16 picks, multiple QBs?
209. Karl Brooks DT Bowling Green
-
Trade: Pick 174 and 2024 NE 7th for Pick 209, 218, 242, 245 with NYG
The Raiders were originally slotted to make a selection with the 174th overall pick but in this mock draft they traded that and a 7th-rounder from 2024 for picks 209, 218, 242, and 245 with the New York Giants. This allows the Raiders to take multiple swings at the tail end of the draft on players that may have slipped through the cracks and will be extremely cheap when it comes to their contracts.
We use the first one of those selections on defensive tackle Karl Brooks out of Bowling Green. Brooks is a bit of a tweener as an interior defensive lineman and edge rusher but he measures in at 6-4 and 303 pounds. He projects definitely as more of an interior lineman thanks to his subpar 40 time of 5.31 seconds but he has great production at the lower college level.
Brooks became a regular starter for the Falcons in 2021 and he has put up a fantastic 17.5 sacks and 30 tackles for loss in his last two seasons. Scouts believe that he is ready for the rough and tumble play in the NFL and that he shows an instinctive ability to read and react to whatever the offense is running
Brooks does not have massive bulk but he plays with great leverage and can play as a 3 technique or nose tackle at the next level. His pass-rushing upside makes him even more intriguing and he could bring some great energy as a rotational defensive lineman for the Raiders.
