It was a busy day for the Las Vegas Raiders franchise on Monday, as they saw Derek Carr land in New Orleans, while also tagging Josh Jacobs.

The Las Vegas Raiders sent Derek Carr to the bench with two games left in the 2022 regular season, benching their franchise quarterback despite still being alive in the playoff race. Carr spent nine seasons as the starter for the franchise, and after the benching, it was clear his time in the Silver and Black was to come to an end.

After the season, Carr met with the New Orleans Saints, as the Raiders were hoping they could trade him away for at least some draft capital. Instead, Carr was released on Valentine’s Day, one day before his 2023 contract became guaranteed, and would be able to test the free agent market.

On Monday, Carr signed on the dotted line with the Saints, agreeing to a 4-year/$150 million contract with $100 million guaranteed. So while Las Vegas looks for their next signal-caller, Carr will be in the Bayou for at least the next two seasons.

Raiders place the franchise tag on Jacobs

Las Vegas made some moves of their own on Monday as well, as they placed the franchise tag on running back Josh Jacobs. This is a move that many saw coming, and now allows the team added time to negotiate a long-term deal with their star back.

Jacobs is fresh off leading the NFL in both rushing yards, and yards from scrimmage, proving to be one of the best running backs in the game. He wants to stay in Las Vegas, and the Raiders want him there for the long haul, so hopefully, they can get a long-term deal done this offseason.

After the NFL Scouting Combine, we are starting to get a real look at what the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft may look like, and the quarterbacks in Indy really showed out. Sitting at No. 7 overall, Las Vegas may end up selecting a quarterback, but to get the best of the bunch, they may have to move up at least four spots.
