Las Vegas Raiders Free Agency: The single best and worst signing since 2018
The Best: Nelson Agholor, 2020 (1yr, $910K)
The 2019 Raiders struggled through a 7-9 season in the last year in Oakland, though the passing game saw Darren Waller haul in 90 balls for over 1,100 yards. Hunter Renfrow also had a significant showing, catching 49 passes, but outside of those two, only Tyrell Williams really made an impact in the passing attack.
In March of the following offseason, the Raiders signed former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Nelson Agholor to a ‘prove-it’ deal. His contract with the team was for the league minimum, and he would have to earn his spot in the rotation at wide receiver, battling against the likes of Zay Jones, Williams, and Renfrow.
Agholor made his presence felt in Week 1, catching a 23-yard touchdown pass against Carolina, a game that would springboard him into the best season of his career. Williams would miss the entire season with a torn labrum, clearing the way for Agholor to be WR1, and he took advantage of the opportunity.
The veteran wideout would rack up nearly 900 receiving yards, by far a career-high, and tie his career-best with eight touchdowns. He parlayed his breakout season into a monster contract with the New England Patriots, a contract the Raiders franchise was not going to match.
