The Las Vegas Raiders emerged victorious in their second preseason game ahead of the 2026 NFL season, beating the Houston Texans 22-20. The Silver and Black overcame an early deficit and rallied late in the fourth quarter for a resilient win, and third-year running back Dylan Laube played a big role.
When we spoke with Laube earlier this summer, it was almost palpable just how much more confident he was heading into the year with Klint Kubiak at the helm. And when looking at the roster, it felt obvious that he was an early lock to make the 53-man team.
A lot of Raider Nation vehemently disagreed, though. Folks thought that not only would Laube not be the third running back in Las Vegas, but that he'd be cut after the exhibition slate. Well, after two games, it's looking more and more like Laube is the unquestioned RB3 for the Silver and Black.
Dylan Laube may have just secured a roster spot with statement game vs. Texans
Laube is never going to be a workhorse running back in the NFL, but he is a toolsy player who can contribute on special teams and in third-down situations. On Thursday, he caught a 14-yard pass out of the backfield, making crafty moves to earn yards after the catch.
Kubiak's outside zone scheme seems to fit Laube's running style much better as well, as he ran six times against Houston for 37 yards and his first-ever rushing touchdown at the NFL level. For those counting, that is 6.2 yards per carry.
Even better was the fact that Laube had several rushes of 10 yards or more, and these chunk plays really helped the Raiders' offense establish a rhythm and get into scoring position to complete the comeback in Houston.
With Ashton Jeanty, Mike Washington Jr. and fullback Connor Heyward all fully established in the Las Vegas running back room, there may just be one or two spots up for grabs between Laube, promising UDFA Roman Hemby and recent veteran free agent addition Dare Ogunbowale.
Through two preseason games, and when looking at the depth chart, it is quite clear that the Raiders have Laube slotted in ahead of both players. His night was over somewhat early against the Texans, too, which is always a good sign in the preseason. Players with more to prove stay in the game.
He doesn't have a lot to prove on special teams, and Laube is really coming into his own as a running back. After facing a lot of flak this offseason and being counted out, with another strong showing, Laube may have just locked up the third running back role in Las Vegas. Go figure.
