Raiders sign Las Vegas native & son of former NFL star to the practice squad

The Raiders announced on Tuesday that they added CB Kyu Blu Kelly to the practice squad.

Kelly was born in Las Vegas and attended national powerhouse Bishop Gorman HS before playing college ball at Stanford, where he landed on the Second Team All-Pac 12 for two consecutive seasons.

Kelly is the son of former NFL star CB Brian Kelly. Brian Kelly, also a Las Vegas native, played college football at Southern California before being selected in the second round of the 1998 NFL by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Brian Kelly won a Super Bowl in Tampa Bay in 2002, which was the same season that he was the NFL's co-leader in interceptions (he tied Rod Woodson with 8). He played 11 NFL seasons, 10 in Tampa Bay and one for the Detroit Lions.

Now Kyu Blu Kelly joins the Silver and Black after a hectic rookie season. He was drafted in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens, but ended up playing on four different teams last season.

After being with Baltimore all offseason, he was released before the initial 53-man roster was released and landed with the Seattle Seahawks. He was in Seattle for the first nine weeks of the year, playing 36 special teams snaps in six game appearances before being released.

The Green Bay Packers then picked him up for four weeks, but he only played in a single game, recording five snaps, four of which were on special teams.

His best stint of the 2023 season was with the Washington Commanders, as he joined the squad for the final four weeks of the season. After spending the first two weeks of his tenure inactive, he suited up for Washington in the final two games of the season, playing 17 defensive snaps and 13 special teams snaps. In those two games, he recorded five solo tackles and a TFL.
