The Las Vegas Raiders didn’t perform well in their 35-21 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 7. Sunday was their second loss by more than two touchdowns this season, but more pivotally, it was their second such defeat in the last three games.
One player who has found a way to produce despite this rough stretch is Tre Tucker. Tucker had his second game in a row with a touchdown and another 100-yard performance. This has been a breakout season for the young receiver, who is looking for a new contract.
He is proving that the Raiders should give him a new deal before he hits free agency next spring, as Tucker ranks 15th in receiving yards in the NFL and currently has the third-most in the AFC. He leads the team as well, even out-producing Brock Bowers (in two more games, to be fair).
Tucker has found ways to make plays over the last two weeks and has three 40+ yard receptions this season. Las Vegas is in need of explosive plays like that, and the former Cincinnati Bearcat has stepped up to the plate.
Tre Tucker is showing he can be an all-around receiver for the Raiders
Tucker was seen as a deep-threat-only prospect coming out of college. This season, he is exhibiting that he can do it all and help this offense succeed in multiple ways. Something he was missing from his game was yards after the catch.
Against the Rams, Tucker had 65 yards after the catch. He forced two missed tackles on those plays, and one led to a touchdown. Klint Kubiak found ways to get the speedster in space to make plays, and it was a rousing success.
An interesting formation for Tucker was him lined up at running back. Late in the third quarter, Kubiak dialed up a creative look to get him the football in space. The Raiders ran a flat route with Tucker. With the Rams showing a pre-snap blitz, it's clear it's man-to-man coverage.
This means the Raiders will get a matchup with Tucker and defensive end Bryon Young. Advantage Las Vegas.
After the snap, Tucker is wide open, and Young can’t keep up. Tucker then takes it upfield and breaks a tackle. He turned a flat run into a 41-yard reception.
The passing game is still well designed. The Rams played man coverage most of the game, so Kubiak has Tucker lined up in the backfield.

He runs a quick flat, but a DE has to guard it. Tucker does the rest for 41 pic.twitter.com/GpE1yVenSy
Later in the game, Kubiak schemed up another look for Tucker. This time, it was a designed choice route, and Tucker ran a corner route.
With this play call, Kubiak got Tucker one-on-one with a safety. It turned into an easy win for Tucker. He then makes a player miss and scores a touchdown, helping the Raiders get back into the game.
Another great design by Kubiak.

Choice concept with mesh underneath. Gets Tucker on a safety, which is an easy win for him. He does the rest for the TD.

If Tucker continues to grow as a wide receiver, he could sneak into a Pro Bowl selection. Hopefully, for the Raiders' offense, his play becomes a trend.
