Monday marks the first day of official Senior Bowl events at Mobile, Alabama as 2014 NFL Draft prospects look to improve their draft stock at the Senior Bowl. Although big names often opt to not attend, even ones that should (Looking at you AJ McCarron), the Senior Bowl offers a good chance to look at a wide variety of prospects before the NFL Combine.
The Senior Bowl’s first big event is the weigh ins of the prospects, and while it may or may not be a tad creepy obsessing over the weights and heights of prospects it is something that can make or break a prospects draft value. Not enough height at certain positions can be a killer, as can not enough weight at others. Like it or not, it is apart of the draft process and is something that NFL scouts and front offices value.
Most looked at for cornerbacks is the height of the player, with so much emphasis on being able to defend 50/50 jump balls it is very rare to see short defensive backs anymore. In fact the shortest DB in the 2014 Senior Bowl class came in at 5’9″ and Utah’s Keith McGill measured at an eye popping 6’3″ which would give him the ability to defend most big targets in the NFL.
