Elite cornerbacks are coming off the market left and right as Sam Shields resigned with the Packers over the weekend and the Raiders are looking like they won’t be active in the Alterraun Verner sweepstakes. However early in the morning leading up to the official start to NFL free agency it looks like Reggie McKenzie will be one of the GM’s kicking the tire on the new hottest name in the free agency pool.

With the Raiders potentially losing the services of Jared Veldheer and Lamarr Houston this afternoon Bleacher Report is reporting that Oakland will be in the race to land potential free agent Darrelle Revis if the Tampa Bay Buccaneers choose to release or trade him.

This is an interesting development, but if the Raiders don’t land Revis in a trade and give up assets it is unlikely they will add the talented veteran cornerback on the open market. Revis is already making $16 million and if he is going to be released and take a pay cut he is going to want to land on a winner, something that McKenzie cannot offer. Look for a potential switch of first round picks between the Raiders and the Bucs if the Raiders do somehow win the Revis lottery.

UPDATE: NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that the Browns are pursuing Revis through a trade on the NFL Network.
