Oakland Raiders add three new players to training camp roster

Thursday morning saw the Oakland Raiders tinkering with the back end of their roster thanks to three small additions to their growing training camp roster to be announced later Thursday according to CSN Bay Area’s Scott Bair

General manager Reggie Mckenzie has signed receivers David Gilreath, former Oregon wideout Rahsaan Vaughn and former Tennessee kicker Michael Palardy.

Gilreath, a wideout and return man, bounced around several NFL camps since becoming a pro and even made the Pittsburgh roster in 2012 before spending time on the practice squad. His agent announced the signing on Twitter according to Bair.

Vaughn played at Oregon before spending some time on the New York Jets practice squad last year, surprisingly struggling to crack the 53 man roster with the Jets depth at the position being appalling at points last season. He announced his signing on Twitter.

Palardy is a left footed kicker who will be the camp leg after ending his career with the Tennessee Volunteers. Don’t expect Palardy to make the team, but he will get some experience getting to work with a veteran in Sebastian Janikowski in addition to getting his name out in NFL circles while allowing the team’s holders to get additional reps with a left footed kicker who can mime “Seabass.”

All three players appear as they will be extreme longshots to make the Raiders 53 man roster based on their backgrounds if you were to project their relevance to the Raiders big picture, but the receivers in Vaughn and Gilreath both can be valuable as wideouts thanks to their experience on NFL rosters in the past. Camp bodies are a necessary part of any NFL Training Camp and it appears that these three will be more than likely used as such and will be rewarded with the chance to make the team’s practice squad and earn a paycheck this season. Just don’t expect any of this trio to make the team unless one of them comes out of nowhere to amaze the Raiders coaching staff this summer.
