Derek Carr taking more reps
Derek Carr has impressed so far in Raiders practices, so much so that NFL insiders have already been reporting that the Fresno St. rookie can potentially “push” Matt Schaub for the starting role at quarterback this offseason.
While those suggestions may be a bit premature as Carr has yet to throw even a preseason pass in the NFL, the rookie has a much more realistic chance at supplanting the Raiders late season starter from 2013 in Matt McGloin for reps this week. With the Raiders staff already liking what they see out of Carr, it is likely that they will want to see even more of him as the lead up to the preseason continues. That will affect McGloin, who is still running with the second team but could see some of his snaps diminished with Carr continuing to turn heads. Not surprising considering that McGloin is a 2013 UDFA and Carr is the highly touted second round pick that is being pegged as the future franchise QB in Oakland.
